The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section answers some of the most commonly asked questions KMK staff receive. Check this page for information about our study guide, online materials, and online ordering.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE THE BOOK?
All orders are forwarded to UPS shortly after they are processed. Assuming the books are in stock, it typically takes 24-48 hours for processing and packaging, and then the orders are mailed. Delivery time will depend on your location and shipping speed. For ground shipping, orders typically arrive 3-7 business days after being mailed.
CAN I REGISTER MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH ONLY ONE TRANSACTION?
Sometimes a student would like to order a course for him/herself and also for a friend. To do so, you MUST register and pay for each order separately. Separate orders are required so that each person has a unique username and password for accessing the KMK study website. Of course, you are always welcome to use the same payment method for each registration.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR A COURSE?
There is no strict deadline to register for a given course. However, we strongly recommend that students register at least 2 weeks prior to the course to ensure that the book arrives in plenty of time. Also, we provide a suggested assignment (posted on the Study Timeline, which is available on the Members section of the website) prior to the course. While this assignment is not strictly required for attendance, it involves becoming familiar with some major chapters and is geared toward preparing you so that you can get the most from the lectures.
IS IT SAFE TO MAKE A CREDIT CARD PURCHASE WITH KMK ONLINE?
At KMK, we take a number of well-accepted and standard measures to ensure that your valuable payment information is safe. In particular, all checkout transactions are processed on a secure server maintained by a nationally-recognized hosting company, and no credit card information is ever stored in our databases. Many browsers will display a small lock emblem in the lower right corner of the page when you visit a secure page, such as the checkout pages of the KMK site. For example, a small lock emblem should appear in the lower right corner of FireFox web browser when checking out at KMK, and this emblem lets you know that the page is secure.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A COURSE?
Registering for a course is a breeze.
- Go to “Register” and select the appropriate course.
- Place the item in your shopping cart. You will then be asked to create a KMK shopper account, which involves choosing a username and password and providing a billing address. Your username and password will allow you to access our online study resources after placing your order. You must have a valid email address, because account activation information will be sent via email.
- After activating your KMK shopper account, you can purchase items from our store, including registration for a course. We accept most major credit cards. You must complete your purchase to be registered for a KMK course. Activating your KMK shopper account by clicking on the email link is NOT sufficient to complete your KMK course registration.
- You must complete the registration by logging in to the store and submitting your online payment for the item in your shopping cart.
After your purchase, log in to the Members area of www.kmkedu.com to access all our study resources! Your book will be shipped to you following order confirmation.
HOW LONG IS THE STUDY GUIDE?
We have attempted to condense a tremendous amount of information into a single study guide, and the result is a lengthy but concise text perfect for self-study. The 9th edition Part 1 study guide is two volumes and more than 1,100 pages long, in total. The 5th edition Part 2 study guide is approximately 500 pages in length. For both books, we have highlighted the material we believe is most critical for board exam success. But don’t let the length intimidate you! The KMK program will walk you through the most relevant portions of the book and help you to approach what is a monumental learning task in a focused, organized, and manageable way.
DO YOU OFFER A PART 2 BOOK?
Yes! The course for Part 2 is online only and includes a case-based textbook (approximately 500 pages) as well as online study resources ranging from videos and practice questions (flashcards) to graded quizzes which allow you to assess your progress in important conceptual areas. As with our Part 1 course, we will also offer test-taking tips and study strategies as part of the online program.
CAN I BUY THE BOOK SEPARATELY FROM THE COURSE?
We do not offer our review textbooks separately from the courses themselves. Our program offers a comprehensive approach to exam preparation, and each component plays a critical role. The material – including the textbook – is intended to be part of a complete package aimed at helping you study wisely and prepare thoroughly.
With that said, we do recognize that some students will not be able to attend a lecture course for Part 1. For those students, we do offer a fully online version of the review course which includes the textbook and access to all online study resources.
The online course is intended for students who cannot attend the course lectures, and it includes all aspects of the KMK program–including online practice quizzes, hundreds of study flashcards, and test-taking tips from the KMK team – except for the lectures themselves.
Similarly, our Part 2 course is online only and features the review textbook as well as online study resources including practice questions, quizzes, and streaming videos of lectures.
CAN I WATCH LECTURE VIDEOS FROM MY IPHONE OR IPAD?
Yes! The videos are currently available in both flash and html5 format, so they are fully compatible with mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad.
I’VE CREATED AN ACCOUNT, BUT I CANNOT ACCESS THE MEMBERS AREA. HELP!
The members area is accessible only to those who purchase registration to a KMK lecture course or the KMK online course. Creating a KMK user account is required to place an order. However, creating an account does not, in itself, give you access to the members’ study area. To access the study area, you must complete your purchase of the KMK lecture course or the KMK online course. You will be granted access to the members’ area as soon as your transaction is approved.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE ONLINE STUDY MATERIAL?
During registration for a KMK course, you will create a username and password which will later be used to access the study website. Following your purchase, you will be able to log in at www.kmkedu.com (upper right hand corner). Scroll over the “Members” tab on the upper toolbar to access the members only area of the website, which contains all the online study material for the course you purchased.
WHY MUST I REGISTER BEFORE ORDERING?
Purchasing a KMK course (online or lecture) gives you access to our KMK online study resources. In order to access these resources, you must have a username and password, and these are generated when you register. As soon as your order is confirmed, you will be able to browse our Members area.
HOW DOES THE ONLINE COURSE DIFFER FROM THE LECTURE COURSE?
The online course was created for students who can not attend a KMK lecture course. Students who register for the online course will receive access to our online study materials, including over 2,500 practice questions, summary outlines, summary videos, and test taking advice from the KMK team. They will also receive a copy of our newest Part 1 textbook. In summary, the online course includes everything that the lecture course includes EXCEPT for the classroom instruction itself.
MY ORDERS ARE BEING DECLINED. HELP!
The most common reason that orders are declined is that the address provided by the customer as the billing address is not the same as the address associated with the credit card being used. When this happens, the card issuing bank will initially approve the transaction. However, because of the address mismatch, the transaction will ultimately be declined by our merchant account for security reasons. Requiring address verification is a method commonly used to prevent fraudulent transactions. In some cases, the declined charge might temporarily appear on the online statement associated with your credit card; however, please rest assured that the transaction has, in fact, been declined because of the address mismatch.
If your transaction is declined, please double check to ensure that the address you provided is the same as that on file with your bank and/or credit card company. If you continue to have problems, feel free to email us and we will provide as much information as we can about the reason for declining your transaction.
MY ORDER WAS DECLINED, BUT I SEE A CHARGE ON MY ACCOUNT. HELP!
The most common reason that orders are declined is that the address provided by the customer as the billing address is not the same as the address associated with the credit card being used. When this happens, the card issuing bank will initially approve the transaction, and sometimes this approval can appear on online statements (typically as “pending”). However, because of the address mismatch, the transaction will ultimately be declined by our merchant account for security reasons. Requiring address verification is a method commonly used to prevent fraudulent transactions.
Again, in some cases – depending on the policies of the card issuer – the declined charge might temporarily appear on the online statement associated with your credit card, because it takes approximately 24 hours for the card issuer to recognize that the transaction was declined following initial approval. However, please rest assured that the transaction has, in fact, been declined because of the address mismatch.
If you feel that you have accidentally ordered twice, please feel free to email us and we will help you straighten everything out. Our customers are very important to us, and we will do our best to make sure you are satisfied.
I’M HAVING TROUBLE PUTTING ITEMS IN THE SHOPPING CART.
After you place an item in the shopping cart, the checkout portion of the transaction takes place on a secure server so that your confidential information is protected. In some cases, making the transition from the regular server to the secure server causes the loss of the content in the shopping cart. If you get the message “there are no items in your shopping cart”, please do not worry. Simply re-place the items in the cart and try again. This should solve the problem.
If the error persists, please make sure that you have cookies enabled in your browser. You can not use the shopping cart software without cookies. Cookies can be enabled by changing your browser preferences.

A MESSAGE TELLS ME I MUST ENABLE COOKIES TO PLACE AN ORDER. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Cookies must be enabled to place an order. First, it is important to check your browser settings and make sure you allow cookies. If your browser settings do not allow cookies, you will not be able to place items in your shopping cart and pay for them.
However, it is possible that some older browsers might trigger the error message even when cookies are already enabled.
If you get the message, double check that you have cookies enabled in your browser and then continue with your order. If necessary, once again place items in your shopping cart and try to check out. It should work properly. If you experience problems, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
